Medical Imaging Training: More Important Than Ever

Dec 9, 2020 | Articles, Siemens

This week, DirectMed Imaging announced the availability of its Training Course Schedule, marking a notable post-COVID comeback. With promising vaccines on the horizon, many hospitals and clinics anticipate a surge in demand for medical imaging procedures. That’s why it’s more important than ever to ensure you and your team have the hands-on training you need, now.

Why Train Now?

Between an expected rise in imaging procedures and a lack of academic programs providing hands-on imaging engineering training, medical imaging is facing a talent shortage. Paradoxically, we also expect a concurrent increase in the demand for service and repair resulting from the surge in equipment use. These challenges are coming at a time when hospitals and clinics are under increased pressure to reduce expenses. For many, that means maintaining equipment after OEM service contracts expire. All that adds up to an urgent need for fully trained experts.

Who Should Train?

Even the most experienced medical imaging engineers can benefit from continued education. Working on a new model, or cross-training with an unfamiliar OEM, can greatly enhance professional development. For clinics struggling to find experienced imaging engineers, it pays to invest in the training of talented BMETs. DirectMed Imaging offers courses that teach BMETs how to conduct preventive maintenance on Siemens systems while also helping them progress toward careers as imaging engineers.

Why Train with Us?

DirectMed Imaging is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company with a 99% training satisfaction rating. We offer 85% hands-on training on more Siemens equipment than any non-OEM provider, and our Definition AS course is AAMI ACI-CEU accredited. While the bulk of our courses are in-person at our Appleton location, three of our introductory offerings, Intro to X-Ray, Siemens Syngo, and Intro to CT, are now available online. We also offer custom training courses to fit your organization’s unique needs. Email us to learn more.

Our hands-on, lab-based courses take place at our world-class training center. The facility includes 17 clinical environment training and QA bays with 27 fully operational Siemens systems, two modern classrooms, and a cafeteria/kitchen area. During our courses, students engage in discussions, lectures, and labs centered on the core principles of equipment operation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair of all primary system components.

What’s on the Training Schedule?

All in-person courses fall into one of five different categories: computed tomography, MRI, fluoroscopy, radiography, and angio/cath lab. Each course focuses on the maintenance requirements of a particular model or system family of Siemens imaging equipment.

While our training course offerings are always expanding, here’s a brief overview of what’s currently scheduled for 2021:

  • Computed Tomography
    • Perspective/Scope
    • Sensation Family
    • Definition AS (AAMI ACI-CEU Accredited)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
    • Magnetom Avanto and Espree
  • Fluoroscopy
    • Servicing Fluoroscopic Systems
    • Luminos Agile/Agile Max
  • Radiology
    • Aristos FX/MX
    • Multix MT/TOP/PRO
    • Multix Fusion
    • Ysio/Ysio Max
  • Angio/Cath Lab
    • Artis Zee

Who Leads the Medical Imaging Training?

Directing our training team is Sam Darweesh, an experienced CT and MRI Senior Engineer. He has been in the medical imaging industry for 20+ years working with industry-leading CT and MRI manufacturers as well as major independent service organizations worldwide.

Our instructors, Joseph Sam and Rick Houska, both National Technical Support Engineers, bring with them extensive field service and support experience in the diagnostic imaging industry. Jill Rosio, our Training Coordinator, provides the organizational excellence necessary to deliver a smooth and productive training experience.

How Safe is In-Person BMET Training?

We know that in-person training is the best way to quickly expand a BMET’s knowledge base and help them retain the complex information necessary to maintain medical imaging equipment. However, we firmly believe that training needs should not take precedence over health and safety. That’s why we place the utmost importance on the health and safety of our employees, customers, and trainees who come to our facility.

Visitors to our training center will find we are following the CDC’s recommended guidelines for workplaces such as ours. Precautions we’ve taken include social distancing, PPE, cleaning and sanitization, individual meals, and staff wellness. We also encourage organizations to send only small groups of trainees and assess the current COVID-19 situation in order to make an informed decision about the right time to schedule training.
